NDSU VARSITY SPRING ‘23

This season the NDSU varsity team is competing in Champions Collegiate League (CCL) and Nation Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). The Varsity team Finished off the regular season CCL with a 7-0 record and goes into LAN as the #1 seed. The Team is also 7-0 in NACE and looks to close out the season undefeated. At the CCL LAN event, NDSU made the grand finals and fell to the defending champions, WSC. This put an end to NDSU’s run but they secured 2nd place this season. In NACE, NDSU got eliminated in the first round during a game 5 thriller. This was their first loss of the season, but it came at a costly time.

CCL: 7-1

3-2 MSUM. NDSU played fairly poor in this series but ended up clutching up in game 5. The MSUM team was underestimated after losing their best player but surprised NDSU with their resiliency.

3-0 WSC. NDSU had never beaten WSC until this season. The team played phenomenal and beating WSC made NDSU a favorite to make LAN.

3-1 UNO. UNO is a new team to the league and put up a solid fight. NDSU's passing plays and consistency help secure the series win. This win puts them at the #1 team in CCL.

3-1 DSU. NDSU continued their streak of beating DSU though not without a fight. DSU came out with a very aggressive bump and boost starve game plan. NDSU managed to sneak out a win but I was a tough series to endure.

3-1 SDSMT. NDSU takes down SDSMT in a 3-1 fashion. Close games overall but NDSU had a solid game play with passes and positioning that netted them the victory to go into the final week of league play in CCL undefeated.

3-0 USD. NDSU Finished out the regular season of CCL with a 3-0 win over USD. NDSU will be going into CCL LAN as the #1 seed which will be taking place mid April in Rapid City, South Dakota.

4-1 SDSMT. NDSU started the CCL LAN by eliminating the host school and putting themselves into the grand finals the next day. NDSU looked very dominate and shut down the offensive presence of SDSMT. This was a great start for NDSU at the CCL LAN.

0-4 WSC. NDSU goes up against the defending champions Wayne State. NDSU had beaten WSC this season, but WSC came into the series firing on all cylinders and swept NDSU to put an end to the spectacular run by the Bison. The Bison secure 2nd place in CCL.

NACE: 7-1

3-2 SEMO. This was a match that NDSU struggled on defense but thanks to some great passing and shot consistency they eked out a win.

3-0 Golden Eagles. This was a walk in the park for NDSU as they faced 3 diamond and had some fun free styling.

3-2 UMN Gold. This was the toughest test for NDSU so far. The team stepped up with pristine positioning and great communication. This was a huge win for NDSU that puts them at the #1 spot in NACE going into the rest of the season.

3-0 MSU TX eSports. MSU came out with an aggressive bump and demo play style. NDSU was able to thwart their attack and with great solo and team passing took a solid 3-0 victory.

3-2 RL OU Crimson. NDSU beat RL OU Crimson is a CRAZY game 5 overtime for week 5 of NACE. 6 min into overtime Simmyy show it top left to close out the series. NDSU stays undefeated with 2 weeks left to go in the season.

3-0 NWOSU Rocket. NDSU beat NWOSU Rocket in a quick series to keep their undefeated streak alive going into the last game. Subs GreekAvenger and Swamp D0nkey were needed because Ktool and Simmyy were out, but that did not stop NDSU from winning.

3-0 University of Denver Gold. NDSU beat University of Denver Gold in another quick series to finish out the regular season undefeated. Since Ktool and Simmyy were still out, Swamp D0nkey and AquaToad had to step in to play along with Remsic and keep the undefeated season.

2-3 Carleton Ravens RL. NDSU lost their first game of the season in any league to the Carleton Ravens in a hard fought game 5. This series was close throughout the entirety and never was out of reach. NDSU did fall and got eliminated from NACE after this loss.

Pictured above is your current NDSU rocket league varsity team. On the varsity team there are three players along with one sub. From left to right you have Alex “Ktool” Kotula, Brayden “Remsic” McCabe, Carter “GreekAvenger” Buchta and Sam “Simmy” Bang.
